Get Smart is now Briefing Room, and it teaches from your numbers.
Short classes on cyber risk for directors, executives and the technical leaders who brief them. Every lesson uses your own expected losses, recovery tests, suppliers and plan, and every class is built around your next board meeting.
What changed
Get Smart is now Briefing Room. It’s short classes on cyber risk for directors, executives and the technical leaders who brief them, and every lesson uses your own expected losses, recovery tests, suppliers and plan. The ransomware class doesn’t quote an industry average. It puts your recovery-time target next to your last test result.
Classes
Seven core classes everyone takes, from Ransomware to Agents with the Keys, plus nineteen electives: five for the boardroom, five technical, and nine for the CFO, General Counsel and COO. Each class shows which of your numbers it uses.
Formats
Watch, listen or read, and switch between them without losing your place. Core classes run about 20 minutes, and a 10-minute Essentials version opens once the full class is on record.
Board calendar
Add a meeting, audit or budget date and its agenda, or import them from Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook or an .ics file. Briefing Room opens a prep window four weeks ahead and suggests classes for each cyber-related item.
Workbooks
Core classes come in Board, Executive and Technical editions, each with its own lead, decisions and questions, and the same sourced numbers. Electives come in the edition for their audience. Export to PDF or PowerPoint.
In the news
When a story matches your suppliers, systems or risks, Briefing Room drafts a 30-second answer and the questions likely to follow. A vCISO checks every number before it's shown.
End of class
A knowledge check you must pass, private commitments, and a sign-off. Questions asked in a lesson can become requests to management, which close only with evidence.
Training record
Completions, hours and sign-offs per person, exportable as an evidence pack for the framework you choose. For public companies, a draft of the board oversight paragraph for the annual filing, for counsel to edit.
Monday Brief
A weekly email with your number, one lesson and one question. In a meeting week, it carries the top news answers.
FIG. 1Home for a director with 15 minutes. The queue is built from the Nov 18 agenda and fits the time chosen.
Why it matters
Most board security training teaches directors what a phishing email looks like. Directors need something different. They need to understand what a ransomware event would actually do to this company, how long the business can be down before it stops being a bad week and starts being a bad year, and which of management’s choices make that number bigger or smaller.
A class built from your own numbers teaches exactly that. And because a question asked in a lesson becomes a request with an owner and a date, and every completion goes on the record, oversight becomes something the board can show, not just describe.
Availability
Available now on Ultra and Enterprise. Open it at Reporting → Briefing Room.
Get Smart briefs, downloads and history carry over. On Enterprise, Ask APRI answers questions inside a lesson.
Known limitations
News answers appear only after a vCISO approves every number in them.
Classes where your Risk Appetite has no matching category (business email compromise, identity and AI) show their bad-year page without a tolerance line, and say so.
